About this movie

LET THE SPECTACLE ASTOUND YOU! In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, Cameron Mackintosh produced a unique, spectacular staging of the musical on a scale which had never been seen before. Inspired by the original staging by Hal Prince and Gillian Lynne, this lavish, fully-staged production set in the sumptuous Victorian splendor of London's legendary Royal Albert Hall features a cast and orchestra of over 200, plus some very special guest appearances.

If I were to suggest a stage musical to anyone, it would be this. The performances are insane, the production/stage magic is fantastic, the music is great, and there's enough stuff going on in the story that it's nearly 120 minute performance just flies by (though there are some lulls). I've been catching up on a lot these stage musicals recently and this is the only one I'd rewatch at this point.

Wonderful!! Bravo I was so disappointed when I found out Phantom was no longer coming to Phoenix, now it doesn't need to. My 11 year old watches this almost every day. Finally something we can do together! It is a WONDERFUL production and almost better than going and seeing it live since you get the close ups of the faces. I am sooooooooo glad I found this. Thank god I don't have to watch that horrible movie any more. (You know the one I am talking about) Finally a Phantom of the Opera I can revel in and watch over and over.

The price is right, but Ramin Karimloo does not look the part to me! Enjolras from Les Miz, yes, but he needs a few more years under his belt, or a little less edginess to play the Opera Ghost. Yes, I mean less edginess. The Maria Bjornson production was not ready for his aquiline profile, even if he had played the Phantom for a long stint in the Village to rapturous audiences. I watched the entire thing free on YouTube two years back, but I doubt you could find that now. Buy the soundtrack instead
