About this movie

When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest (Demian Bichir) with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows (Taissa Farmiga) are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.

God Awful! Don't waste your money buying this overpriced (£17?! are you serious) attempt at a film. As a massive Conjuring fan I was counting the days to see this in the cinema, and I haven't never been so disappointed after leaving a screening. The Nun lacks everything that made The Conjuring films so great, it lacks the intelligence and elegance with which James Wan works and honestly I'm amazed that his name is attached to this. This is nothing more than a phone-in lackluster cheap thrills experience that tries to latch onto the success of something great only to come out as a messy patchwork of scenes that feel disjointed and frankly could've result been removed and the narrative wudnt have suffered. The comic relief character is insufferable and cringey AF to the point where I was crying for the Nun to kill him, sadly the writers had bigger plans for him. All in all The Conjuring 2 did something which few Hollywood horror films do - it genuinely scared me and made me want to look away whenever the demon nun was on screen, and yes she looks terrifying but a lot of the horror she gives off is from how brilliantly Wan teases her throughout the film with new and creative takes on familiar horror movie tropes. This film has none of that and is uninspired and brings nothing new to the table and therefore is boring and I think an insult to the Conjuring franchise. However the thing that really made me lose any respect for this film is a particular scene towards the end where a group of ghostly nuns are chasing over if the characters down a dark corridor. Because it's so dark their faces are spookishly black and empty, pretty cool. Then as they were chasing they were passing by torches which strangely and creepily did not illuminate their faces, pretty good, EXCEPT for this one torch, I guess the editing department forgot about it, which completely showed off their faces and you could clearly see the black masks over an outline of a face. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen all the decent jump scares, everything else is just forced and boring, and most of all uninspired. A shame and a waste of an opportunity to create the next big horror icon. If you don't want the character is the Nun to be ruined for you, skip this and watch The Conjuring 2 again!

Ok-ish, watched this at the cinema, was expecting it to be like the conjuring but was a tad disappointed! And 17 quid? Seriously. Not even the hard copy on blu ray cost that much. HMV and tesco are 15 quid

A disappointing horror spin off. Obvious plot set ups, expected jump scares, a demon who doesn't speak. The main actress can only do a scared face.
