This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Some of the scripting is superb. Great characters, Stella Aussie cast, Kirk Douglas playing two main parts and the connection to the original poem is great. I really like the interplay between the American business owner and the mountain man. There is some nice "coming of age themes". The fact that Jim really is a jerk at times means that there is room for him to grow into the man... the man from Snowy River.

The blurb above doesn't explain that this movie is based on the 1890 poem of the same name written by Australian poet Banjo Paterson. The main character, Jim Craig, is a mountain cattleman. This is one of the best Australian films of all time and was filmed in the Victorian high country.
