The Magnificent Seven

I really enjoyed it. Im not usually a fan of modern day westerns but id have to say that i enjoyed every minute of this remake. Denzil Washington is the most underated actor ever and should be applauded for his role. I am a huge of is especially after his recent movie The Equalizer and cant wait for the second one to come out. But back to the Magnificent Seven and all actor played their roles well and made at a real enjoyable movie. I dont get why so many people are saying how bad the acting is or how bad the film is. Ok the original will always take some beating but this will come pretty close to it. My advice to those who havent watched it yet then give a try and you may suprise yourselves at how good the remake is.

The movie is confused between serious and comedic tones. The music can be distracting at points in the movie and often times the camera angles leave you questioning the tone. Usually I get into movies like this, but it was very difficult to get lost while there were so many mismatched moments throughout the film. Chris Pratt's character is based on one liners which was not given enough time in character development to be relevant or as comedic as he can be. Denzel Washington was played well although falls into the same pit fall as Pratt without appropriate character development it just leaves you questioning "why" on many occasions. Some fun western gun slinging makes it worth a watch, but might not be worth paying to see it.

As a western fan, sitting through countless hours of my Fathers favourites when I was young, this was just ok, but couldn't bring myself to give it 3 stars, compared to others in its category. The plot was simplistic and I guess I was hoping for a new take on the original, or the original original, or at the very least the Western!, but sadly, no. Well acted, well executed, however it doesn't overcome the poor script and lack of depth. The character I felt the most for, Red Harvest, said the least. That sums up the script. Kind of felt like "if you build it (add in a Marvel hot property actor - and I love Pratt - not to mention DW) they will come" type of affair. Well, I came, parted with my $$$, and kinda wish I waited until it came on free-to-air. Rent if you have seen everything on Play already, but forget purchasing altogether, and save up for 3:10 to Yuma.
