About this movie

Inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, this heart-warming fantasy-adventure follows a young girl who discovers a beautiful, enchanting woman she believes to be the real "Little Mermaid". William Moseley ('The Chronicles of Narnia', 'The Royals') stars as Cam Harrison, a young reporter following a big story about a Mermaid, Poppy Drayton ('Downton Abbey'), and a magic healing water. Together with his niece, they travel to a small town in Mississippi and uncover a legend that's as mysterious as the circus they find it in. Also staring Academy Award Winner Shirley MacLaine ('Steel Magnolias') and Gina Gershon ('Showgirls'), this magical and inspiring story of love will swim out of the ocean and into your hearts.

Its kind of a pity as the core of the story narrative has great promise. A breakaway from the traditional stories as it were and is quite beautiful in isolation. But there's a lot of supplementary characters that just seem to be there to carry the plot along, and solve problems so that the lead characters dont have to, essentially watering down that core story to the point its illegible. Also giving the supplementary characters features and abilities with no explanation left even my little one asking questions trying to fill the gaps. They could have, perhaps made more sense if the film was an extra hour long with some more substantial backstory but honestly I still think they should have kept focus on development of 3 main characters And the bad guy was just, bad. No other way of putting it. If he was supposed to be creepy or sinister, sly or feel powerful he wasn't. He didnt feel threatening so she didn't seem earnestly scared. The romance was killed off by all the above. Just far too many stories on the go. The effects were good, they didn't overdo it and I think the little one felt more a sense of realism because of the prosthetics of the mermaid than had it been CGI.

Film started off with potential however the whole build up to the climax just made everything us as it went with a horrible display of how low budget the CGI actually was. Wouldn't recommend this film.

This is such a bad film... I'm sure it's fine for very small child but as an adult it's sooooooo bad. Cheesy beyond belief and the acting is awful!
