I wasn't expecting much from this "new" musical I hadn't heard anything about, but the performances are superb, the music fun, and the whole film very moving. Told backwards and forwards simultaneously and from different viewpoints, the narrative can be a little fuzzy, but it keeps you engaged as you want to see the story from both sides of the relationship. None of the songs are instant hits, but the soundtrack has very few duds among its' dozen or so songs. Both leads give very engaging performances that helped me believe the relationship and their mixed emotions could be real, which really helped pull me in over the hour and a half I spent in their life. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed The Last Five Years from beginning to end...to beginning to end again.

I am obsessed with this, can't get it out of my head. The music is so incredibly good and the connection between AK and JJ is so authentic. I haven't been moved by a movie like this since I don't know when. I had to buy the soundtrack. It hit the authenticity button...anyone with a heartbeat can relate to this love affair...we have all been on both sides of this one at least once or twice in our lifetimes.

The Last Five Years tells the two sides to the story of a relationship over the course of five years. Though each side is being told from a different starting point. One tells the story from start to finish while the other tells from the ending to the beginning. Trippy but well executed. What makes the show worth the concept are the performances of Jordan and Kendrick. They bring a solid vocal performance to a high concept musical.
