About this movie

Based on the true story of Miss Shepherd (played by a magnificent Maggie Smith), a woman of uncertain origins “temporarily” parks her van in Alan Bennett’s (Alex Jennings) London driveway and proceeds to live there for 15 years. What begins as a begrudged favor becomes a relationship that will change both their lives.Acclaimed director Nicholas Hytner reunites with iconic writer Alan Bennett to create this rare and touching portrait.

But I loved it. Heart warming, funny, very sad, and based on two very real people. Never going to be a box office juggernaut but I found myself thinking towards the end, " There go I but by the grace of God." In other words, we are all just one tragedy away from being in a similar situation. Made me laugh, made me cringe, made me cry then it made me think. Next time you see a homeless person it'll make you wonder what their story is.

This was the best way to show how older ones never want to lose their independence and freedom!!! They want to keep as much control over their lives as the rest of us. It's what teenagers live for and aging adults crave! This movie made me cry because she reminded me of my Mum before she died and how much she wanted to die at home with her loved ones and not in a cold hospital room by herself! I loved this movie!!!

I went in thinking I really was going to like the movie . I was disappointed, there was no meaning to the movie. You weren't even able to get a good concept of what Miss Shepherds life was before she lived in the van. It was lacking details
