About this movie

Dr. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon presiding over a spotless household with his ophthalmologist wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two exemplary children, 12-year-old Bob (Sunny Suljic) and 14-year-old Kim (Raffey Cassidy). Lurking at the margins of his idyllic suburban existence is Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless teen who Steven has covertly taken under his wing. As Martin begins insinuating himself into the family's life in ever-more unsettling displays, the full scope of his intent becomes menacingly clear when he confronts Steven with a long-forgotten transgression that will shatter the Murphy family's domestic bliss. 2017 EP Sacred Deer Limited/Channel Four Television Corporation/New Sparta Films Limited.

Personally I was torn whether to score this film a 3 or 4. I really did enjoy this film, but you definitely need to view it with an open mind. It is bizarre, and challenges ideas of nihilism which is heavily emphasised by its quirky dialogue and vague emotions. Thus this makes the movie strangely interesting and captivating but also makes it hard to form any attachment to the characters....possibly the directors intent. Its a psychological thriller rather than a horror which felt flat in areas but manages to pick itself back up. Overall it's a strange but alluring ride. . .

This was an extremely frustrating film. The cause of their problems is not entirely clear and the ending is ridiculous. The actors tried to make the vibe 'weird'. To an extent that worked. But i'd have to say the scariest thing was the music. Warning: strong urge to punch the script writers. Also r.i.p to the most liekable and semi- relatable character of the entire film.

Another good, solid (weird) movie from Yorgos. Hilarious how many people are giving this negative reviews because they just weren't prepared for something a little more artsy than 'Bad Moms' or '50 Shades'. One of those films that you let happen to you and that stays with you afterwards.
