About this movie

During the frantic days before a heavily contested presidential primary, up and coming campaign press secretary Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling) battles for Governor Mike Morris (George Clooney) in the race to win the Democratic presidential nomination. When the opposing candidate's campaign manager (Paul Giamatti) offers Stephen a job on his staff, Stephen neglects to inform his campaign manager (Philip Seymour Hoffman). As his silence is revealed is revealed, Stephen uncovers a dirty personal secret that could sink Morris' political career. Written and directed by Academy Award winner George Clooney and also starring Marisaa Tomei, Jeffrey Wright and Evan Rachel Wood, The Ides of March is sharp, quick witted and an intense tale of sex, ambition, betrayal and revenge.

In truth, I never actively pick out a political drama; this one fell in my lap, I watched, mostly to see if Ryan Gosling had any more characters in his repertoire , at first it's slow, almost asleep , but hang on, this is Pace, Clooney gets the most out of his young pretender from the directors seat and on screen, the pick up of speed and intensity is gripping.... Drive this certainly isn't, but you'll still be holding your seat by the end.

A solid film but its not as good as the height of the west wing. Keeps you interested while you watch partly due to the cast. Also if you want a better Ryan gosling film watch drive, a five star film imho

A great political movie, particularly if you're into US campaign politics. It's a very gritty look at politics and it makes you hope that it's not realistic, but you know that there's some truth to it. Def worth a rental!
