About this movie

In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro), who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town's sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches. Based on the beloved children's classic book.

This movie is by no means geared towards kids. It would be terrifying to anyone under 15 years old. The general moral of the story is fine but the dark magic/satanic content is inappropriate for any child. This movie should be rated Mature with a fantasy horror description. There is literally a book shown with a picture of Satan eating what looks like babies. The young boy is being guided by a spirit presenting as his dead mother, who tells him to disobey the person who she left her son to in order to bring back his dead mother and when the truth is revealed he and his family is subjected to actual physical torture. Also when the which transforms they use that head shaking thing they always use in horror movies which is even more terrifying for a kids. Seriously who gears this garbage at kids.

I wouldn't say pass on this movie because it was ok, but the actors (outside of Jack Black) were not great. The kids were not convincing in their roles, and the 2 main kid actors were not good. I hate saying that but it's unfortunately true. The scenes with the kids alone were pretty painful, but I feel like a lot of that is on the writer/directors for using such lame and predictable banter. Luckily Jack Black is in a lot of the scenes and he honestly pulls this movie along. I liked the concept, but the actual movie was a little generic and was held back by the writing/directing and the kid actors. I probably won't watch it again, but if you like Jack Black you may want to give it a try.
