About this movie

Here's the absolutely hysterical, wonderfully wild, cosmic adventure comedy THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. Based on Douglas Adams' worldwide best-selling novel, and starring an outrageous intergalactic cast, this is one ride you don't want to miss. Seconds before Earth is destroyed to make way for a new hyperspace express route, mild-mannered Arthur Dent is whisked into space by his best friend (an alien posing as an out-of-work actor). And so the misadventures begin as he and fellow travelers, including the cool but dim-witted President of the Galaxy, the Earth girl Trillian, and Marvin the paranoid android, search for answers to the mystery of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

I agree with the dude talking about ppl bashing this movie. Esp the one about college girls. YOU must really be a loser buddy. It's no surprise you say something stupid like you did. And that goes for everyone else saying something utterly dumb about this movie. You don't have to be a nerd or read the novels to enjoy this movie....OR get with dim witted college girls lol. Dumba**. Go read a book. That being said, an enjoyable movie. Check it out if u haven't already. P.s. STOP HATING!

Don't panic. Is it a faithful adaptation of the main book? No. Does it muck around at points and pick and choose bits from all of the stories in the series? Absolutely. Are the books better? Inescapably, yes. But all of those argumentative points miss the purpose of the movie. It serves as a love letter to Douglas Adams and allows his fans to try and see some of his brilliant work brought to life. Not brought to life in a neat and tidy way, no, but in a beautiful Frankenstein's monster way that only it's creator could love. And made in the hope that if you love the creator of the material enough you would love the monster that was created to make the creator happy. I'm glad that the producers declined the use of CGI for Vogons and allowed Jim Henson's company the wonderful task of bringing them to life. I'm glad that I get to see and hear comedic and acting heavyweights like Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy, Thomas Lennon, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Alan Rickman breathe life into these characters that I have grown to love. But most of all, I'm just glad that this movie exists.

Great cast totally wasted. Considering how good the source material is, this may be the worst adaptation ever. It's as if the jokes were translated and then verbalized phonetically by people who don't speak the language. No one involved in the making of this movie should ever be allowed near good source material again. Or they should forever forced to listen to Vogon poetry. If you loved the books, the radio show, the record or even the TV show, AVOID THIS! It is terrible.
