The Hateful 8 is not a bad movie and it isn't particularly good either. I suspect that people say they like this movie because it is Tarantino, not because it is a great movie. I am trying to give an explanation without spoilers, however as I want to say something about structure I might inadvertently do so, please only read if you do not mind minor spoilers. It's main problem is that it is unnecessarily long and within that length I don't understand why it would need a voice over to explain what happened "in the mean time" ( don't want to spoil it). Another thing I found lacking is the sharp dialogue or the smart structuring of the story ( reservoir dogs/pulp fiction) and none of the character arcs were really fleshed out , it rather felt like a big brother reboot with guns to vote people out. What I think would've worked better is that this movie would have worked better if it started in Red Rock where you see a ceremony with a close up of a chest seeing a pair of hands pinning a sheriffs badge...have a couple of things happen differently in the middle(fade to black final shoot out?) and at the end of the movie see the face of the last man/woman standing.
