About this movie

Based on the best-selling novel, The Hate U Give tells the story of Starr Carter, who lives in two worlds: the poor, black neighborhood where she resides and the mostly white prep school she attends. This uneasy balance is shattered when she witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood friend by a policeman. Facing pressures from all sides, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

If you’re saying it divides people you’re flat out stupid as dirt. It’s highlighting a problem that has been going on for YEARS. I don’t mean 5 or 6 but 200+ years. “This seems to divide and not unite” HOW THE HELL WE SUPPOSED TO UNITE IF WE (AFRICAN AMERICANS) are getting killed because they don’t like the color of our skin, we’re just about equally talented if not MORE, we can do about 100% everything a white man can do that’s the real reason they hate on AFRICAN AMERICANS. All I’m going to say is if these officers take that badge off and put that gun down. WERE ALL THE SAME so let’s see who gone be killing who

Whether you like this as a movie or not, I feel that the contrasting division in the reviews it has recieved alone is a poignent indication of the long standing problem it seeks to highlight. In the UK this past week, we have seen how a young white male is publically lauded for simply reciting someone else's lyrics at Glastonbury, the same lyrics for which the black artist who actually had the talent to write them is condemned and chastised.

Very good movie from start to finish and you end up really being invested in the characters and the outcomes . The main girl in this does a great job playing the role and looking forward to see more of her. This movie really pulls at your emotions one of my favourite small films of the year so far
