About this movie

Mark Wahlberg stars as a man who takes his family on the run when a natural disaster threatens to end civilization. For years, the earth has been the victim of mankind's "progress," and the pollution has finally built to a point that causes a global backlash. An invisible neurotoxin is released into the air making the people in Philadelphia go crazy and kill themselves. The Happening is a paranoid thrill ride through this large-scale, cataclysmic environmental crisis that turns into a struggle by mankind to overcome nature.

The Happening a movie that would have been good in 1987-1996 but today just does not present well. 5 actors do a really good job but the rest of the cast really don't help the poor plot or the lack of thought that was put into making this movie. Zooey Deschanel cannot act, at all. Every time I see that she is in anything I think: "Well this better be good because she can't act" and also I think "Who keeps giving her roles to play!?" Mark Wahlberg does a decent job and little Ashlyn Sanchez plays her role very well. This camera work in some parts is just out of place and emersion breaking. There are attempts at comedy that fail miserably as well. This may be good for small children aged 9 - 13, I really couldn't say but I know young me would have enjoyed it enough that it would have been a good way to end a day on the couch but older me thinks "I would like my 90 minutes back." I struggle to give this a good score at all but I must and I would rate it 4.2/10 maybe a good family horror...

A pity. The script and story are Fantastic. Mark deserves to be shot for his performance. Zooey was not a great choice either, but at least better than him. It turns comedic when it should be pure drama... a better director would've probably done a better job, he never got the cast into the proper mood.
