About this movie

From the creators of You're Next comes The Guest, a pulse-pounding thriller starring Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Maika Monroe (Labor Day). Recently discharged from the Army, David Collins (Stevens) unexpectedly shows up on the Petersons' doorstep, claiming to be their late son's best friend. Welcomed into their home, the well-mannered stranger becomes part of the family until a shocking wave of violence raises daughter Anna's (Monroe) suspicions that the mysterious ex-soldier is not quite what he seems. Smart and suspenseful, The Guest is an action-packed blast that critics are calling "impossibly cool." (Samuel Zimmerman, Fangoria).

Terrible movie, the plot is weak, the main character arch is disorganized and misleading. The movie starts with "David" the protagonist appearing at the doorstep of a fallen brother in arms and begins to start to help the family heal. However the plot of the movie then takes a weird Halloween horror twist/shoot out. This feels unnatural to the plot and as a result is neither a good uplifting story nor is it a thrilling horror... its a waste of money and time.

This movie was so close to greatness. It would have been a phenomenal conspiracy thriller if they really just tried. The constant question of "why" is present throughout the movie. I didn't know that this was going to be a Halloween flick and that's what the downfall was. So close.... Seriously the first 3/4 of this movie has got to have been the most original plot I've seen in a long while. So refreshing! But it all just went South. :/ Still I'd watch it. Cuz it still a good movie non the less.

If I had a time machine I'd go back and slam my hand in a door... I'd at least walk away with fonder memory of the time wasted here... Someone's failed attempt to be Quinton Terintino meet Bourne.
