About this movie

Journalist Jep Gambardella has charmed and seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades, but when his sixty-fifth birthday coincides with a shock from the past, Jep finds himself unexpectedly taking stock of his life, looking past the extravagant nightclubs, parties, and cafés to find Rome in all its glory: a timeless landscape of absurd, exquisite beauty.

This is an amazing character study. I have heard that Sorrentino has been compared to Fellini. Although similar, they have their own styles. I see much beauty in this movie as well as a powerful message, similar to that of Tom Fords "A Single Man" It is very well done and poignant. I agree completely with Simon Abrams review of the movie. Take a look on rotten tomatoes. The ending is brilliant.

Artistry, Authenticity, Aging, The Past vs. The Future, Death during Life, Sex, Love, Romance, The Pursuit of the Ridiculous... all and more... lovingly portrayed and compressed into a little more than 2 hours. What else would a thinking man or woman watch? Ironman 2?

Loved the movie. It is a well-crafted and deep study of one person Jep, artistically executed by Sorrentino. Visually rich with philosophical themes.
