About this movie

The Florida Project is the story of precocious six-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Kimberly Prince) and her ragtag group of friends whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder, possibility and a sense of adventure. Living at a motel in the shadow of Disney World, Moonee is seemingly oblivious to the struggles of adults around her, including mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) and motel manager / father-figure Bobby (Willem Dafoe). A vibrant yet heartbreaking portrait of life on the fringe, the film garnered critical acclaim at both the Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals.

Well made slice of life story. Can be annoying at times - persistently unruly children, terrible music and lots of "grownups" abusing each other for our entertainment - but there is some good acting in places. Being American, it apologises for its 90% offensiveness with 10% sentimentality at the end: a 6 yr old child goes crying to a girl she was spitting on for fun earlier. Aww. The Florida Project was the working title for Disney World. Perhaps the sequel to this will be Bobby Peru VS the Little Rascals. No subtitles. 3 day rental.

Kool & The Gang - Celebration. Opening scene from the movie as pointed out by other reviews. Not highlighted, however, is the town of Celebration is very adjacent, Rick Foglesong, a Disney watcher of long standing at Rollins College in Florida, calls it "the Vatican with mouse ears". It has been said that "Disney invented Celebration as an ideal American small town. But recession, a brutal murder and a suicide have killed the magic" There is magic in this film but its not from Disney. It's not the first time the "idyllic American Dream town theme" familiar to many other movies that are not only far less specific they lack the understanding, empathy, clarity, and emotional depth that this movie supplies.

No real story line, just a movie about a skanky mother and her brat child... The ending didn't tell you anything about what was going on, or what was going to happen... 💩💩💩
