About this movie

Lighthearted adventure about an overlord, Count Ulrich - who takes it one step too far. It was bad enough when he kidnapped the pretty wife of the young archer Dardo. But when Ulrich takes the man's son - a rebel leader is born.

Though the action is set in 12th century Italy, The Flame and the Arrow plays more like a Robin Hood retread--but that's not such a bad thing when it's Burt Lancaster and old his old circus buddy Nick Cravat romping across the screen displaying some amazing acrobatic skills that would challenge any stunt man. Just like Robin, Lancaster's exuberant Dardo wants to bring down the royal baddies who are literally lording it over the people of Lombardy. Never mind things like historical accuracy, just sit back and enjoy some old-style Hollywood adventure, beautifully shot with lots of buckles being swashed. A treat for any Lancaster fan.
