Yeah it's pretty good for what it was. Some of the effects now may not be the best (and can be laughably bad at times) while others can be pretty damn impressive when you find out the budget Sam Raimi had to work with. The acting fine and gets the job done most of the time, but it can be laughably bad occasionally. Hell, I'd say this is almost a comedy at times. Which of course, caused Evil Dead 2. But it is a good movie, it's not great like Evil Dead 2, but it definitely is pretty good. I recommend watching this with friends if you can, it's a good couch movie to have friends over for.

Most people need to realized this movie came out in 1981. If you compared this movie with the new ones, people will think is more funny than horror. That wasn't the opinion of many people when it came out the first time. Just like the movie The Exorcist. You watch the Exorcist now, it won't cause the same emotional impact as it was the first time it came out. All the movies you consider real horror movies now will be funny or just okay 10 years from now. I still enjoy the movie and I think it is creepy.

The Evil Dead is about a group of horny teens going out into a cabin in the woods for the weekend. They find a demonic book, and shenanigans ensue. Although there are some good scares The Evil Dead is extremely low budget, and at times just funny because of it. The sequel and remake are much better, but the original is still worth a watch.
