When brothers Justin (Benson) and Aaron (Moorhead), former members of a “crazy UFO death cult”, receive a mysterious videotape in the mail, they find an eerie calling card from their past inviting them back to attend an event called “The Ascension”. Despite Justin’s initial apprehension, the two agree to return for one day. At first, their old cult friends seem warm and welcoming, but things soon begin to turn strange and the two brothers find themselves drawn ever more into a vortex of bizarre rituals, strange messages, unseeable forces and sinister supernatural secrets that threaten to tear apart the very fabric of reality.

Very disappointing, like an avarage episode of The Twilight Zone but longer and more boring. Very tired dialogue, flat and uninteresting characters, no scares and nothing thought provoking. it's honestly a stretch that this film is considered a horror or even Lovcraftian (apart from the very obvious quote at the beginning.) cheap, boring Sci-fi film with no redeeming factors. Don't believe the hype.

I didn't know what to expect of this movie, but found it witty and compelling in a way a lot of recent sci-fi movies fail to be - whilst it maybe ends up closer to being a long episode of the Outer Limits than a blockbuster movie, I found the cast's excellent performances and interesting premise to be very enjoyable.

Great movie with a Lovecraftian vibe. Great photography, good acting and some decent fx. The story is well written and with some unexpected twists and touching moments. Absolutely an horror movie to watch.
