About this movie

Set in pre-colonial New Zealand The Dead Lands brings Maori history to life in an epic big screen experience. The film showcases stunning landscapes, the brutal traditional armed combat Mau rakau and an extraordinary local cast. This special New Zealand film explores the concept of mana (honour & respect) and the intricate protocols associated with it. The Dead Lands tells the story of Hongi (James Rolleston), a Maori chieftain’s son who seeks to bring peace and honour to the souls of his loved ones after his tribe are killed through an act of treachery. Hongi’s only hope is to pass through the feared and forbidden Dead Lands and forge an uneasy alliance with the mysterious "Warrior" (Lawrence Makoare), a ruthless fighter who has ruled the area for years. 2014 GFC (WARRIOR) LTD & BACKWELL (WARRIOR) LTD ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

A about time NZ got movie like this out, well done and need a bit more like this to watch, Great to see so much . All show the Maori in all it's might and Maha. This story out lines some of the expression of the Maori culture and young boy becoming a man without losing his pride in some of the great fight scenes. This is must watch
