More like a 2.5. Not as good as Pitch Black - which worked really well because of its tight story, solid character arcs, and not overusing Riddick. It was a survival story that was relatively open and shut. This movie is too grand for its own good, and while I acknowledge the ambition of the filmmakers, I still feel like this is too much of a tonal jump from Pitch Black. Maybe its just me, but I never felt like the Riddick character was the kind that I would put up against an intergalactic threat and become their leader. Some very strange writing choices and action sequences with too many cuts bring it down as well. However, I still enjoyed it overall. I watched it because I wanted to see more Riddick and as far as that goes I'm satisfied. If you liked Pitch Black its worth a watch at least, but don't expect the same kind of movie.

This is the directors cut and the best version of this movie for sure. The 20 min or so that were cut out in the theatrical version make a big difference in his character development and I really do not know why it was cut to begin with. Great movie!! Wish Vin Diesel would come back and make a third for this story. Watch Pitch Black first then sit back and enjoy this one. I sure did!!

This is the most exciting, intriguing, and enjoyable movie ever made by Vin Diesel. What can I say, it's AWESOME! Watch it again and again and enjoy it as much as the first time. So much action and surprise. You may want to watch Pitch Black and then Riddick to complete the trilogy, but this is my favorite of the three. Not implying the others are not good, just saying that this is my favorite!
