The plot was weak and infantile. I was bewildered that two fine actors would agree to being in this movie. It might have been motivated by money; in Cusacks defense, perhaps, he wanted to work with De Niro. The last scene displayed many paintings by the same artist. I was curious if these were painted by De Niro’s father?! I would appreciate an answer. His father was a compelling, artistic and troubled man. Robert Sr. was frustrated by being unable to make a living from painting like many of his peers. Like many artists, his paintings gained acclaim after his death, due in part to his son’s game. He was complicated and brilliant. I would have hoped he would have been bequeathed with the happiness he so deserved. Artists are depicted oftentimes as miserable and detached. As a clandestine artist I believe one doesn’t have to suffer for their passion, albeit we all struggle but there is enormous joy with passion fulfilled. I celebrate Robert Sr.’s work and life.

John Cusack must have a second mortgage, or a bad agent, or both. Bad script - not campy enough to be campy, not serious enough to be serious. And Deniro?! Why Deniro? This movie tarnishes actors who I thought knew better. There are a plethora of easy (racist-y) caricatures - and all sorts of dumb stereotypes, but without the redeeming self-awareness of other genre movies. Don't waste your money.
