This movie has a nice vibe to it. The theme song that plays throughout is pretty cool, it gives a mystery type vibe in the scenes it is used, like you know a character is thinking about doing something or something is about to happen when you hear it. And some people are saying there is no reason the movie needs to be set in the 80s, and to that I kind of disagree. See, back in the 80s, police were totally different, there was no 911 where you call them and they arrive within 1-2 minutes of an emergency, it would take longer. Also, no one installed security cameras for their houses or alarms for hourses back then, unless you were reallly rich, which is not the setting of this movie. Think about this exact scenario playing out in today's world. Killer would have a security camera both inside and outside their house, an alarm system in place for their windows and doors. If the main character even stepped foot into his backyard to spy on him or anything like that, he would be seen by the cameras and the gig would have been up practically instantly. Plus todays youth don't really go playing outside like this anymore, they play on their cell phones or play games on a playstation or xbox. Unless you set the movie in a town of like 100 people, the premise of the movie wouldn't really work. a TON would need to change and we simply wouldn't even have the same movie we have, so not worth changing it...

As someone who was born after the 80s, I think a lot of the super-positive reviews here are the result of heavy 80s nostalgia. If you put that nostalgia aside, this is an okay movie, nothing new or thought-provoking. The humor and acting are enjoyable. The plot is formulaic and anti-climactic. And it's yet another movie with Rich Sommer, who I don't find very convincing in a "crazed villain" role.

People are comparing this to Stranger Things...however, this is a more realistic scenerio which makes it more frightening. The plot has been used many films previosuly but the ending is definitely better than anticipated. The acting was okay. This film was flawed in it's character development, we like the characters but we aren't endeared to them as a viewer. Overall, it was a good film and better than anticipated. I read up online that there is no plans for a sequel. I hope that changes.
