Street Fighter

I'm not really sure what all these ridiculous comments are all about, but this is probably one of the finest works ever created in the history of cinematography. Jean-Claude Van Damme performs at peak career levels and words cannot describe the acting prowess displayed by Raul Julia as Warlord M.Bison. How the academy glanced over the supporting cast of this film is beyond my wildest comprehensions. There are probably half a dozen nomination worthy performances within the first 30 minutes.

I thought this was way better than expected. A lot of the reviews make it sound like a terrible movie (apparently this made a top 10 worst video game movies list). But the thing is, when you set the bar that low, it can't help but exceed expectations. It's not GREAT but when you make a video game movie, you'll have some problems and this doesn't screw up so badly it's bad. First off, Raul Julia's performance as Bison is honestly great. He apparently took the role for his kids who were fans of the series. A lot of the other acting is good too. Some people say they couldn't tell who the characters even were but I recognized a lot of them. I recognized E. Honda and Vega, Chun Li, etc. And the plot is ok. This feels like a GREAT movie to see with your friends over beers, especially if you can make fun of some of the bad parts. And Bison's Tuesday quote is just as iconic as it seems in the YouTube clip. Honestly, all 80 min were worth it just for that.

At first I liked how there were two plots happening at once but then out of the blue they combine and that takes you off guard. I had no idea who some of the characters were until they wore the proper outfits. The ending seems a bit thrown together. I recommend this film for action lovers and not fans of Street Fighter because you'll most likely find a dumb reason to hate it.
