About this movie

In this contemporary version of the beloved stage play and classic film, Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy's Beauty Spot to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children — all the important issues that truly unite and celebrate women. Funny, wise and richly human, this immensely moving film features a brilliant all-star cast, including Queen Latifah (Chicago), Phylicia Rashad (TV's "The Cosby Show"), Adepero Oduye (Pariah), Condola Rashad (TV's "Smash"), Jill Scott (TV's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency") and Alfre Woodard (TV's "True Blood"). 2012 Sony Pictures Television Inc. A Beautiful and Brilliantly acted film adaptation of Robert Harling's 1987 play about the bond among a group of women. This universal tale can be told again & again through different lenses and never gets old. Everything good here! Such a treat to see award winning big screen actors + rising stars in these slice of life moments with family & friends. This film was shot intimately- keeping the stage feel. It is a funny, emotional, exultant journey- enjoyed every minute of it!! Highly recommended

This isn't an interpretation, it's a blatant copy meant to appeal to black audiences. The script didn't change, the jokes were literally word-for-word, and the attempt was horrible. Here's the good... Nope, nothing. The bad... The pace was rushed, the actresses looked uncomfortable, the lines weren't delivered authentically or with any real emotion. The costuming department needs to be fired and blacklisted and whoever thought it was okay to take a movie and black-wash it while not changing one thing doesn't understand what plagiarism is. For goodness sake, at least change SOMETHING. The skinny... Just skip this piece of trash and see the original. If you want to see a decent movie with these wonderful actresses, there are too many to list. Don't waste your time on this.

I've honestly not watched it yet. But I want to. I'm so for the original, because it the original. But I love the story so much, I'd like to watch it again in a new way. I personally don't understand why they kept the script so close. I love the idea of making this story more open to the black community. It allows the black viewers to feel even closer to the characters. I would however love for one day, to have a story this heart hitting of a cast that is equally black, white, hispanic, etc. A true equality dramedy. The cast for this specific film, is in my opinion, amazing. I adore most of them. And those I don't, it's just for the simple fact that I've not yet seen them in act. I'll give it a go, and keep very open minded the whole time. Also, the costuming is fun and flowery. I want of few of them hats gurl!!!♡♡♡
