This movie isn't for everyone. I watched it as a kid in the 80s, thanks to the influence of my father (may he rest in peace). It's the little things that make this a gem: Bridges actually looking like he doesn't know how to behave like a socially conforming human being is priceless. His acting is quite good, as is Karen Allen's. Although it makes a few philosophical assertions, it's still a solid light sci-fi movie with a romantic theme. Ending scene is still among my favorites of any movie.

Jeff Bridges was great. One of my old favorites from the 80s. Some say they didn't love this movie, well, I did, & my daughters did. It was sweet, sad, interesting & poignant. Here an alien comes, something these so-called Earth geniuses wanted so bad they spent a GooGle on sending up a gold record into outer space (true) & then promptly want to catch him, dead or alive, just to dissect. Typical head of state, armed forces, etc..it was something without tremendous bloodshed, gore or evil spirits possessing someone. Thank goodness!

This was the most awful movie ever to hit the big screen. Why! Why would anybody spend money on a movie this abysmal. If the studio wanted to throw away millions of dollars they could have just tossed the money out of the window and I would have been standing under it with a basket to catch all that cash. Starman flamed out like a dying star. Stop letting 9 year olds approve movie script idea's!
