About this movie

The U.S.S. Enterprise proudly soars again in this newly restored, Director's Edition of the original Star Trek movie classic. When an unidentified alien destroys three powerful Klingon cruisers, Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) returns to the newly transformed U.S.S. Enterprise to take command. Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and the cast from the acclaimed Star Trek television series mobilize at warp speed to stop the alien intruder from its relentless flight toward Earth.

Looks great and seem to be a very nice transfer but this is NOT the Directors Edition as per the write-up. The Director’s Edition is 136 minutes with additional, extended and alternate scenes this is only running to 130 minutes. Very disappointing this is the theatrical edition and not the Director’s Edition as claimed. I would have scored it a lot higher if were sold as the appropriate edition.

This is NOT the 2001 Director's Edition, which includes extra footage, and remastered video (including new external 'scenes'), sound and audio effects. A pity. Despite it's reputation as a 'slow' Trek film, it remains one of my favourites due to characterizations, storytelling and of course it's magnificent score.

Sometimes dubbed "the slow motion picture" because of its lumbering pace, the film has a lot to enjoy but it is essentially just a big episode of Trek. So long as you don't expect the pace of an action film this is great, nostalgic, and essential to the Star Trek universe.
