About this movie

A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city's gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer's morbid game.

Unfortunately had the displeasure of seeing this in the Imax theater and spending far too much money to see it. Compared to the other Saw movies (including number 5 & the final chapter, which were awful), this is the worst of the bunch. I picked out the killer within his first couple of lines. No mystery, zero suspense, terribly acted and miscasted, horribly written, the traps/gore are not suprising or grisly enough, and no real twist happens like the others. Stay far away from this Spiral!

Doesn't land and misses the point of SAW movies with the traps lack a chance of escape making them just murder machines. The protagonists make no headway and die easily one after another making fighting of the new Jigsaw one-sided boring defeat. Villain's motivation seems contradictory and flimsy. The whole movie's theme is too rooted in Black Live Matter which is just annoying to audiences. The ending is absolutely inexcusable coming off as more on obnoxious and infuriating side than gripping.

I would honestly give this movie 2.5 out of 5 Stars if I could. I am a long-term saw fan, and I really see the message they were trying to get across with this movie, but it was honestly a very sloppy execution. The traps were also extremely unrealistic with the amount of time the people had to potentially get out of the traps. This honestly felt like a very poor version of the saw movie where jigsaw was trying to train the cop to be the next Jigsaw (saw 4).
