In Spider-Man 2, the latest installment in the blockbuster Spider-Man series, based on the classic Marvel Comics hero, Tobey Maguire returns as the mild-mannered Peter Parker, who is juggling the delicate balance of his dual life as college student and a superhuman crime fighter. Peter's life becomes even more complicated when he confronts a new nemesis, the brilliant Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) who has been reincarnated as the maniacal and multi-tentacled "Doc Ock." Spider-Man 2.1 (which is only 8 minutes longer than itś theatrical cut) is a film in which we view our main character as being incompetent and losing his grip on his life. We see Peter Parker go through struggles as not showing up to class on time, not doing his home, he even loses his job. As we see Peter's downfall through the film while he tries to save other's lives and stop crimes he ends up ruining his romantic chances with Mary Jane, this helps us sympathise with Peter and director Sam Raimi shows the imperfections of a normal human being. Throughout the film Peter starts slowly losing his power and gives up being Spider-Man due to the stress he goes under. At the same time Dr. Otto Octavius (Doc Ock) loses his wife due to a failed fusion test and loses control of his mind to mechanical arms on his back due to his inhibitor chip being broken in the process. Otto starts going mad and begins robbing bank to attempt the fusion experiment again. It's here where we get a great sense of action as provided by Raimi as Spider-Man and Doc Ock fight inside and outside the bank, this scene also shows the great puppeteer work that was put into the mechanical arms. There is so much more.

Wasn't the best out of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies, but certainly wasn't the worst....looking at you #3. You can really tell the director takes his Horror elements to heart on this one. It is still a very decent movie and although at times a bit ridiculous, it deserves to be recognized for being pretty dang good. Spiderman loses his powers in a few of the comics, so they got the character right as far as I can tell. Anyone saying otherwise is a bit of an idiot. Looking at you "two-star" DA
