About this movie

The world needed a hero, we got a hedgehog. Powered with incredible speed, Sonic The Hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), aka The Blue Blur, embraces his new home on Earth. That is, until he accidentally knocks out the power grid and sparks the attention of super-uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Now it’s super-villain vs. super-sonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic’s unique power for world domination. Sonic teams up with The Donut Lord, aka Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), to save the planet in this live-action adventure comedy that’s fun for the whole family.

Not sure what happened to my comment that I posted on Halloween of 2020, as well as most of my reviews as lately they've just been disappearing for some reason so I'll just post it again. Watched it on Halloween of 2020, and it truly was worth it. Got it on Google/Movies for really cheap plus an extra hour because of daylight savings time. Not sure why it's so criticized along having mixed reviews, but in my opinion it was truly amazing and fantastic. Like even scene after scene it would play with your emotions by making you cheer for Sonic, feel sad for him, nostalgia from the good old days and much more. Like I can just keep going on and on about how amazing this movie is. It honestly made my day considering that the pandemic took place and since Halloween was cancelled but that still didn't stop me from celebrating it to the fullest which I did. Not only that but they completely nailed it by getting Jim Carry to act as Dr. Eggman. Anyways, Happy Halloween everyone and hopefully you got to enjoy it to the fullest just like I did. Literally one of my best highlights of 2020 as well and a memory I'll never forget of watching this movie alongside my Twin Brother who picked it for so cheap and bought it to watch together on Halloween of 2020. Such an underrated film, that doesn't even deserve the hate that it gets. I'm even commenting on this on 22/02/2022 | 02/22/2022. What a day, and a what a once in life time day as well.

Growing up and seeing countless BAD videogame adaptations that were created solely to capitalize on the brand-name associated with each one, I can say that Sonic the Hedgehog is possibly the best adapted game to film. Aside from a simple/straight-forward plot that makes sense, that even young kids could follow, the character of Sonic is exactly how you'd expect the character to be portrayed. There is no gritty twist or surprise elements that try to warp the origins of the character in some flashy way. Just a straightforward "Sonic" film with some added elements about finding his place/family in this world. Now honestly, the visuals are where it is all at. This movie somehow manages to make a bright blue animated character, and advanced robots actually look grounded in reality. Half the time you will forget that you're watching a non-existent character onscreen, simply because he looks like he belongs there (as much as...well a blue hedgehog can). Overall I have to say that I had SERIOUS (die-hard even) doubts about this film before going into it. Yet it actually managed to impress me and surpass my initial bias against it. So in summary: The movie is decent (not going to change your life or shape your worldview or anything), the animation looks GREAT, Jim Carrey is possibly the best person to have been cast for the villain, and despite taking decades to accomplish they managed to actually make a good videogame movie that didn't make me want to punch a hole through my television and scream at the sky "WHHHHHY!!!!???????" as I collapse to my knees in defeat.

When reviews started popping up saying it was an alright movie, being a long-time fan of Sonic, I really wanted to see it. Just saw it tonight and it was definitively a really good time. They had to change Sonic's personality a little bit (in the games, he's generally very careless and doesn't care getting into troubles), but given the context of the movie, it makes perfect sense and I'm 100% fine with it. People may say it's a kid movie, but this is good kid movie. I hope they do just as well or better in the sequels. Bring back the Chaos Emeralds!
