About this movie

Somewhere in Time is the story of a young writer who sacrifices his life in the present to find happiness in the past, where true love awaits him. Young Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) is approached by an elderly woman who gives him an antique gold watch and who pleads with him to return in time with her. Years later, Richard Collier is overwhelmed by a photograph of a beautiful young woman (Jane Seymour). Another picture of this woman in her later years reveals to him that she is the same woman who had given him the gold watch. Collier then becomes obsessed with returning to 1912 and the beautiful young woman who awaits him there.

A good old fashion 1940's romance movie: slow, simple plot, exquisite leads, sweeping music. Shoulda been shot in B&W.

I remember the first time I saw this movie. It was on HBO when I was a kid. This movie is my favorite of all time. Better than The Notebook as far as romantic and heart wrenching. I love the old music in this movie. A good watch for all of us who feel that we should be living in another time. A time when things were much simpler, but also a time when true love was cherished. A tear jerker. This 1980 movie is one of the best films ever made! Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour show amazing acting talent. Love it !!!

I saw this movie when it first came out. At the time, I was seeking escape from a very painful, failed relationship. I was immediately smitten with the music and the story of how true love can pass through all things and is forever enduring. The acting is superb, the soundtrack perfect to the story and the setting more than enough to draw one to The Grand Hotel, even for just a brief tour. And though somewhat dated, for anyone who is a romantic at heart, this will become a heartthrob event never to be forgotten. Five Stars then, now and forever.
