About this movie

Some Freaks follows one-eyed high school senior Matt (Thomas Mann) who meets plus size Jill (Lily Mae Harrington) and falls more in love than he ever thought possible. However, when graduation comes and Jill moves cross-country to go to college, she undergoes a major physical transformation - much to Matt's surprise when he arrives to visit her. While Matt struggles to accept Jill's new look, Jill begins to question whether Matt is really the man she thought she knew. As the distance widens between them, the characters are forced to confront who they are, who they were, and who everyone thinks they're supposed to be.

Angst-Ridden and Worthwhile I must admit, I felt that Some Freaks was tough to watch! For the most part, I thought that the plotline was cohesive. To me, the climax was choppy due to the director's ambitious decision to blend three stories at one time. I was especially confused during this particular sequence and was disappointed in its resolution. However, I believe that the material is engaging and realistic. Overall, I feel that it is a brave piece of work which showcases the ugly side of modern perception and its residual effect. My mouth dropped at the reference to Laramie. Nothing is sacred in the script, including a popular boy's struggle with his image. The actors and actresses were phenomenal, especially the three leads. I only hope for a sequel!
