Sleepy Hollow

If you're looking for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, you're not going to find it here. Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow is only loosely based on Washington Irving's wonderful short story. Beyond sharing names it has nothing in common with the story. The 1999 TV film starring Brent Carver, despite it's various little faults, is more faithful to the source material. I've seen various cartoon and live-action adaptations, this one I stay away from like it's the plague. Not one of Burton's best films.

Of all the Tim Burton films I've seen this one is still by far my favorite. I love the fact that its a thrilling and suspenseful but too scary. There are some parts of the film that I believe could have been left out, but I find its easy to over look those in this case. Ichabod Crane has never looked better!

A wonderfully enjoyable Tim Burton piece. He doesn't go over the top here, but infects the classic tale with just enough of his wiliness that it adds so much more to the original story. Depp is great, Ricci looks her best ever, and the rest of supporting cast adds their own terrific elements to a great film.
