About this movie

True crime novelist Ellison Oswald (Ethan Hawke) is so desperate to repeat the success of his first book that he moves his family into a home that served as the setting of a brutal murder. But instead of inspiration, Ellison finds a box of mysterious home movies in the attic that seem to point to unspeakable terrors -- ones that could threaten his entire family.

This movie is a psychological thriller and not horror. It's slow paced, not scary and full of gimmicks. I was so bored watching this I was tempted to fast forward but that would have taken more away from the movie. I kept watching it patiently and it was over...no scare no edge of your seat. Just a boring movie. You spend the whole time waiting for the good parts and they never come. Then again it's from lions gate...the king of hyped boring horror movies.

I was wondering if it was possible I would waste my money on another "scary" and well I did. Nothing at all scary about this movie. Sure the demon was scary looking but he lacked a certain sinister about him..no pun intended. He didn't do anything worthy of being a demon. You can look scary all day but unless youre truley evil it has no effect. Unless you're easily scared. Do yourself a favor and not watch this.

Horror is very subjective. I like the kind of horror film that gets under your skin. I like a movie that gives you second thoughts about walking down a dark hallway in your house after the movie is over. Sinister was creepy and very tense at times, but not something that is going to leave a lasting impression. It kept me fearful about what was going to happen next, but it left me wanting more at the end.
