Silk Road

I didn't have particularly high expectations, but this movie really took the cake in terms of how bad it is. The inaccurate, twisted-on-its-head plot and the grotesque acting are equally terrible. It's even comical at times. On another note, this movie is an insult to anyone who followed Ross Ulbricht's case. The number of inaccuracies and factual errors is beyond the pale. Even someone who doesn't know about the case can clearly see how exaggerated everything is. Tyler Russell was aiming for a "Social Network" kind of success, but instead he pulled off a strong contender for the Razzies.

There's a lot of texting, typing on a laptop, etc.. and I didn't feel engaged. I recently watched The Wolf's Call, a movie where almost all the action happens through the pings of a submarine's sonar and it was gripping. This movie failed to replicate something similar. The pace is slow and the suspense keeps being interrupted by the police guy's cliché family issues. If you're looking for a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this isn't it.

This movie doesn't begin to do justice to this complicated story. There were 3 teams of law enforcement people trying to catch Ulbricht, and the Baltimore team had 2 corrupt officers, Shaun Bridges (DEA) and Carl Force (FBI) who ultimately went to prison. However, there were plenty of honest law enforcement officers who are not really given serious credit in this movie. This movie needed a better director, better writers and better actors.
