This movie is a 2 headed beast. Firstly it screams sequel and, given the power of the first Sicario screams cash in. It ends in a strange place with many plot lines unresolved. Secondly as a type of propaganda It is less grounded in fact and more in the unsubstantiated paranoia. it's a Tom Clancy if it was written by a Republican Whitehouse that doesn't question it's own transgressions or historical responsibilities but plays to popular memes. Just enjoy it as an action movie.

A worthy sequel to the critically acclaimed first film, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve, with cinematography by Roger Deakins. The mammoth task of this sequel fell to Stefano Sollima and Darius Wolski respectively, who took a wise approach in differing the film's directorial style while engaging with the script's continuing discourse over the American War on Drugs (a phrase that seems antiquated given the franchise's focus on the people smuggling trade). While differing in tone, the film still succeeds to engage the viewer stylistically and in terms of substance. Indeed, a sequel that stands on its own merits.
