About this movie

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Bought this movie on blu-ray since Google's version only have Chinese subtitles. The movie is good not only for it's action, graphics and comedy, but also the message it tries to bring across. One such message is about the definition of family. If there's love, even people who are not biologically related becomes family. The background of the villain demonstrates the power of the words we say to our kids. Having grown up being told that I will never be good enough too, I can identify with the villain. Also the negative effects of bullying, even if it's between siblings. Sometimes, villains are created simply because of the absence of love in one's life.

Very good movie in terms of comedy and action. Ending was a bit meh. The villain was meh as well. Very good take by DC to make a comedic superhero movie unlike Justice League or Batman V Superman

Positive messages, family/friendship bonds and Zachary Levi lift up this fun superhero flick. The villain is meh though.
