About this movie

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

A very poor, cringy movie full of naff one liners and really unlikable characters. Zachary Levi looks terrible in his costume and the constant barrage of one liners just re-enforces the idea that he is a second rate ryan Reynolds. It is like someone sat down, watched all of the MCU movies and tried to cram their best tropes into one movie, even down to the credits. I really wanted to like this film but it's just another poor outing for the DCU. still better than Wonder Woman though.

By far the best DCEU film yet. the kids actually act their age and their relationships are believable. it's a fun goofy story about a child who becomes a superhero it knows it's goofy and owns it. it does not act all dark and edgy like the batman films before. the problems I have are very minor (spoilers in coming now don't read ahead the movie is good watch it) the first and most nitpicky of them all is the humor some of it feels out of place, lastly the cgi monster fight at the end is awful.

I have to admit I pretty much enjoyed it, as it had good energy and pacing, action scenes were fun, and it enough jokes to mesh things all together. There are plenty of Easter eggs, both verbally and in the background, to make repeat viewings worth it, if only to prove how nerdy we are hehe. It also teases potential sequels. Only downside is that I didn't get to hear more of Mark Strong's lovely voice to my complete satisfaction. The world needs more Mark Strong. Oh and there are two post credit scenes, one after the initial animated credits and potentially an important scene if a sequel is made, and another at the very end which is more of a joke scene.
