"You destroy the things you love" is acknowledged as the theme that captures this highly quoted and quotable film. This is simply my most favourite of all Alfred Hitchcock's black and white films where the dialogue and references to sub-plots dominate what is an ordinary average suspense driven film made special by the local people, not actors, from Santa Rosa, California cast not only as extras but as important characters central to the plot giving a very special small town flavour extra authenticity.

I don't know, maybe it's me, but while this has all the telltale signs of a Hitchcock film (murder mixed with humor), it just doesn't have the same level of entertainment as the more popular films that he's known for. About the only thing that I enjoyed about this film was the peculiar hobby that the father and his friend had about devising a way to murder each other and get away with it. But as far as rest of the characters and the thriller part of the film, it just didn't do much for me.

Superbly written and executed by the actors and actresses! The mentally challenging plot will have you on the edge of your seats, yet delivering moments of comic relief. This movie definitely is a "Must See"!
