With SHADOW, director Zhang Yimou (HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS) once again pushes the boundaries of wuxia action to create a film like no other, masterfully painting a canvas of inky blacks and greys punctuated with bursts of color from the blood of the defeated. In a kingdom ruled by a young and unpredictable king, the military commander has a secret weapon: a "shadow", a look-alike who can fool both his enemies and the King himself. Now he must use this weapon in an intricate plan that will lead his people to victory in a war that the King does not want.

I wish I could give this 0 stars, what a BORING MOVIE! I couldn't even finish watching it Spoiler alert the first action scene comes @ 1hr13mins, I had to fast forward to that the first 35 mins is just talking, I wish I could get my money back , if you want a movie to put you to sleep this is it, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, any so called action movie that's almost 2 hours DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME

I'm getting into Chinese film a lot more these days. I thought this was a very enjoyable piece. The costumes make it good and the filmography was good.. I like the genre as a whole. This was somewhat stretched but that is almost unavoidable in flicks of this type. Overall, it was inventive and sustained it's pace well/ Good job, well done.

Great movie, excellent plot and character development. One must often be educated with a bit of understanding to enjoy foreign films. The pacing and culture are different and often better than american movies that hide behind explosions and movies shot on darkened sets to hide pour costuming and special effects
