About this movie

A romantic, contemporary fable, SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN is the tale of government employee Dr Alfred, or Fred, Jones (Ewan McGregor), a rather introverted scientist at the Department of Fisheries and Agriculture. Trudging along in his day job, with his marriage stagnating, his world is suddenly thrown into turmoil when he's drawn into a scheme hatched by a fly fishing-obsessed Yemeni Sheikh (Amr Waked) who dreams of achieving the seemingly impossible — introducing salmon to the wadis of the Yemen. - 2011 Yemen Distributions Ltd, BBC and The British Film Institute. I have been really surprised. I expected a mediocre film and got love depth and a strong if not impossible story. Getting fish to the Yemen is not believable, but the character s connection was so good that it didn't matter. Loved it.

Meh, I wasn't particularly bothered about this film and didn't really care if I saw it but my family stuck it on and I watched some salmon fishing, in Yemen. It's pretty much a romance story/comedy-ish/life lesson film. It wasn't too bad; there were a few funny bits, there were a few sad bits. It was better than I expected and would probably watch it again if it was on TV or something. I don't think everyone will get some of the British references like I did (cause I'm from UK) but without that you can still like it. This is a very short review because I don't really have many thoughts on it; it was an okay film and you will enjoy it if you like that sort of thing.

It's funny in places and the plot, although never believable is a nice canvass. The problem is the development of the story on the emotional side never convinces. For me it was nice to watch on a plane. Would have felt a waste of an evening at home.
