Directed by George Cukor, produced by Irving G. Thalberg, and starring Norma Shearer, Leslie Howard, John Barrymore, Edna May Oliver, and Basil Rathbone, this lavishly designed production of Shakespeare's classic tale of star-crossed lovers was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Norma Shearer), Best Supporting Actor (Basil Rathbone), Best Art Direction, and Best Picture. Over 2,000 extras were used.
