I like the idea of a modern film based on Wong Fei Hung. I really like the idea of Sammo Hung playing a villain which he'd done exceptionally well in Sha Po Lang. Eddie Peng is cast well here. He has a lot of charisma on camera and is a good actor making Fei believable in most situations. He is surrounded by a number of really good chinese actors that you may recognize from other films, Sammo Hung, Byron Mann, Boran Jing, Tony Ka Fai Leung and others. Overall the acting is good. But their are some concepts of Chinese action cinema that are horribly overdone and Rise of the Legend is no exception. The fight scenes which have moments of greatness but are generally absurd because of the over reliance on wire work. An action star of the caliber of Sammo Hung, even at his age, should never need wires. Using wires with Eddie Peng just looked ridiculous. The fight scene at the end was made even more absurd because of the use of wires and a ridiculous backdrop for the final battle. Then there is the concept of the tortured soul of the hero and the forbidden love, Vows of brotherhood etc.Totally overblown, melodramatic. 3* out of 5* for some good acting but there are better.

great movie, lots of martial arts action! Sammo Hung is that bad guy you love to hate. once past the language barrier, you will thoroughly enjoy this. if you liked IP man, or martial arts films you will love this. oh,p.s., Donnie Yen IS NOT in this.

One of the best property revisits ever made. Fresh, compelling, stylish, all-substance and no filler. RISE OF THE LEGEND is a must-see, but more importantly, it is a MUST-HAVE!
