Set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse, but the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

A movie that tries to compensate for it's lack of substance by baiting it's audience with nostalgia. The soundtrack totally missed the mark half the time, putting a song's popular notability above it's appropriateness for the scene in question. The film's purpose seems to be to have its audience constantly searching for references they recognise, so they might remain distracted from the weak plot and feeble character development and chemistry. Save your money and buy a Where's Wally book instead -- you would get about the same experience.

This is my favourite movie based on one of my favourite books. Though it does not fully follow the same structure as the book (Main premise and story does) it still works really well. It has really satisfying battles, races and has a well written message in it. The acting in it is well done especially by Mark Rylance (James Donovan Halliday) and well every actor with in the movie. Also being young but loving the 80's and video games I was hooked. My only negative with it is it referenced take on me by a-ah but not played!

This movie feels like a anime movie at certain moments in this film but the story structure of this movie felt like a another thing we saw in other movies. I gave up 20 minutes into the movie in the first viewing. It gives a great visual and magical story telling at points but i give Ready Player One a B-
