About this movie

PRIEST, a post-apocalyptic sci fi thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills. © 2011 Screen Gems, Inc. Spoilers below...Terrible movie. I like the genre, this movie is awful. Too many unbelievable things. Even at .99 cents it was a rip off. Only priests can fight vampires? The church is run by an ignorant leader blinded by only what he wants to be true allows priests to fight vampires and then only when he thinks vampires are a threat. So many holes in the plot. After hundreds of years there is finally a hybrid vampire/human? Come on, how is that believable?

This was (told to me by a comic nerd friend) supposed to be a new comic big screen adaptation. I wasn't expecting too much and really enjoyed it. I like explosions. I like superpowered fighting and vampire critters.I like Karl Urban and oh man did Karl chew the scenery, but I loved every minute of his chewage. This is a guilty favorite of mine and I hope you give it a chance. Some of the mythos is intriguing and it doesn't lack pop-out horror moments along with fun fight scenes. I might just watch it again. Hey: Maggie Q rocks by the way. Good casting all around.

Along with the lack of sparkly vampires that seem to be the norm these days, these vampires are on a different level of creepy. A mix of Underworld and something you'd expect out of a Marilyn Manson music video. This movie also portrays the realistic religious "I'll cram it down your throat" society that we seem to live in today. I've seen this movie a few times already and wouldn't hesitate to watch it again. Sure it's got some slightly cheesy action scenes but have you seen the Matrix movies? Overall, A+
