About this movie

When Ash Ketchum oversleeps on his 10th birthday, he ends up with a stubborn Pikachu instead of the first partner Pokémon he wanted! But after a rocky start, Ash and Pikachu become close friends and true partners—and when they catch a rare glimpse of the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh in flight, they make plans to seek it out together, guided by the Rainbow Wing it leaves behind. Trainers Verity and Sorrel join Ash on his journey. Along the way, Ash catches an abandoned Charmander, raises a Pokémon from Caterpie to Butterfree and then releases it to follow its heart, and meets the mysterious Mythical Pokémon Marshadow. When they near their goal, the arrogant Cross—Charmander’s former Trainer—stands in their way! Can Ash and Pikachu defeat this powerful Trainer and reach Ho-Oh as they promised, or will their journey end here?

It's an enjoyable movie for every Pokémon fan, especially fans of the original series. While I havent seen all the movies this movie does definitely feel more like an actual movie than previous ones, which felt more like advertisements for the games. This is one of the best Pokémon movies in a long time, but it does rely too much on nostalgia of the original series and this stops it from being its own thing quite often. There are a few ups and downs through out the movie but it is still good.

I loved this movie, but I've noticed that a lot of people don't like this film all because of one scene and consider it absolute garbage because of it. There's nothing wrong with the film or the scene in question, I just wish people will stop being so entitled. If you can't stand Pokémon talking then this isn't a movie for you, I personally would love to see a sequal to this film.

Really captures the spirit of Pokemon, and that is why it is good. However I do believe that this movie did not give enough explanation that it exists in a parallel universe from the tv show. Bold move on making this movie this way and it works fairly well. But i do wish they had established that with a nod or two to the show. The ending credits cameos however were really well done and evoked everything I needed to bump this review up from a enjoyable 4 to a fantastic 5. Pokemon is a franchise I've known well since I was young, and I hope is able to keep in touch with its past just as much as it is willing to try bold moves like this, other than that I would absolutely recommend to Pokemon fans.
