Dark, compelling and raw, it took me several attempts to get through this entire movie. Four addicts repeatedly trying and failing to claw their way out of the spiral of addiction is challenging to watch, and their emotionally charged backstories makes each character relatable on some level. The underlying theme is love: the love they have for one another, family and drug of choice, and the lengths they'll go to for each of these elements truly humanizes addiction.

I give it 5 stars because I see the elements of film (lighting, directing, acting, story, etc) and I happen to love math. I aced calculus in college. I loved the films A Beautiful Mind and Good Will Hunting which this movie reminded me a lot of. This probably wouldn't appeal to the average Joe much.
