About this movie

History comes alive in the unforgettable epic picture PEARL HARBOR, the spectacular blockbuster brought to the screen by Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay. Astounding visual and audio effects put you at the center of the event that changed the world -- that early Sunday morning in paradise when warplanes screamed across the peaceful skies of Pearl Harbor and jolted America into World War II. This real-life tale of catastrophic defeat, heroic victory, and personal courage focuses on the war's devastating impact on two daring young pilots, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett, and a beautiful, dedicated nurse, Kate Beckinsale. PEARL HARBOR is extraordinary moviemaking -- a breathtaking reenactment of the "date which will live in infamy" and a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who lived it.

Dan Ackroid is an overweight military officer, Alec Baldwin cops an out-sized sneer as a leader of a bomber squadron, and Ben Affleck over acts when he cries inconsolably over a tragic loss, with some of the most ham-fisted dialogue ever to grace a movie screen. This film tried too hard to be Titanic, using a romance to steer the plot, with the history stuff knocking around somewhere in the back. Neither the history nor the romance, floated.

PEARL HARBOR bombed out when it came out in 2001. There are several parts in the movie that are computerized battle scenes . Cuba Gooding Jr. plays well as Seaman Cook Dorrie Miller, hero of the USS West Virginia Pearl Harbor attack . It is said that Dorrie Miller shot down 4 Jap attacking aircraft. He was killed in a later Pacific naval battle on board the USS Liscombe Bay, a newly built aircraft carrier. He was killed on board and "presumed dead" along with 600 shipmates.

Not too shabby with story and such, after all it does regard the "Day of Infamy", but its a Michael Bay movie, cheap effects, getting stuff wrong in shots (Like those ships not being "1941" US Navy ships), and of course for a "Bay Movie", TOOO MUCH DAMN EXPLOSIONS! I'd prefer more work, actors like Affleck are spot on though! Mmmmmmmm... I give it 4 stars, considering its position as a drama based historical "disaster" film.
