About this movie

In a dark time for a young girl, Spain and the entire world, the haunting fantasies within her mind merge into reality, giving birth to a land of fantastical creatures and secret destinies--Pan's Labyrinth . . . El laberinto del fauno. 1944. Rural Spain. As Franco consolidates his brutal hold after years of civil war, lonely and dreamy Ofelia must come to terms with the cruelty around her. Living with her mother and adoptive father--a military officer under the Fascist government who is tasked with ridding last rebels from their area, Ofelia creates a fable, giving life to a secret inner world to help her cope with a world gone wrong. From acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro (Cronos, Mimic) and produced by Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Y tu mamá también.

Wonderful film. People leaving reviews that they can't read subtitles and watch the movie at the same time are not only idiots because it says very clearly in the description the audio language is Spanish, but also because they're obviously reading at about a fourth grade level or below to not be able to see both the visuals and the subtitles. Also you're seriously missing out on some amazing film if you skip all foreign language cinema. Go drag your knuckles to the latest Transformers movie and stop leaving idiotic reviews for a movie you couldn't even understand!

Spanish without ENGLISH AUDIO. Can't Say I didn't like it because I didn't watch it. It's in Spanish and although I know some Spanish I truly think that they should tell people it's in Spanish without English audio. It's misleading so I never started to watch it. Heard it was a good film but I'll wait for the English version. I watch movies for entertainment. I take Spanish classes to learn. It DOES NOT say anything about it being without English Audio in the description I read. For those mature individuals who felt the need to use derogatory labels of other reviewers.

The story conveys the struggles of a young girl speaking any escape from her especially unique view of the French Revolutionary War that surrounds her and her family. This tragic story is always able to engage and entertain me from start to finish. The subtitles force the viewer to focus, but without the French language base this would be just another poorly dubbed-into-English cinematic classic.
